Free Antivirus Offered to Vista Testers
With Windows Vista Beta 2 slated to become public through a Customer Preview Program in the coming weeks, testers may find themselves facing a major problem: many antivirus suites don't yet work with the new operating system. Computer Associates is aiming to remedy this issue by offering free copies of eTrust EZ for Vista.

Well so far I'm not having a lot of luck with the Etrust AV. It installed OK, but Security Centre is complaining that real-time protection is turned off. Nothing I try will enable it, and there is no explanation or suggestions on what to do

I've been waiting for someone to try it out.....I killed a Vista install a while back by installing AVG or Avast....I might try the newer Avast..
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Well I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results, so I sent an email to CA. This is the reply I got:
Hi Nick
Thank you for contacting CA Consumer Support
This is with reference to the issue number 14968639
Please be advised the Antivirus will not work on a 64 bit vista os.
Thanks and Regards

It would have been nice if they could have let me know before I downloaded and installed it
It looks as if those of us who want to use 64-bit Vista are in for interesting times

...could of been worse, at least it was free...
Avast Home/Pro should work, as an alternative: http://www.avast.com/eng/system-requ...vast-home.html

Has anyone heard any news as to whether *cough!* Norton or McAfee are developing 64-bit versions for Vista?

Please Bistro, the very thought sends shudders through me. It is starting to look increasingly as if 64-bit programming is causing big problems for the companies that normally write good software. I can only imagine what 64-bit would be like from the companies that regularly produce crap

Exactly why I am not jumping on, in or anywhere near the bandwagon when it comes to 64-bit. IMHO "wait and see" is the best road to take at this venture.

So far,eTrust AV for Vista 32bit has been behaving itself fairly well. The only nig I've found,is it checks for updates everytime I reboot instead of just once a' day as it's supposed to...
Stupid question? No such thing!
