Modem - Router Doesn't support port forwarding
Hi there
I have installed a remote desktop application on my PC at home so i can use it remotely from work(actually check out my downloads status!!)
I got the same application at work and the router here supports outbound port forwarding for this app-i've checked it out.We use it for our clients(it's a tech support department-yeah that's right i'm new )
Anyway whenever i try i get this error that i can't connect.
I've found out that since my ADSL modem is also a router i have to enable port forwarding for the specific port and application.I looked through my modem configuration but i can't seem to find that option.(a rather poor device i'd say-but it came for free with the internet connection)
I've heard that in that case i should use Hamachi which is free software for such issues.I downloaded the stuff installed it but never used it yet since it's tottaly new for me.
I wonder if u guys have any other ideas or tips about Hamachi or whatever
Thanks in advance
Have a nice day

Your router should support port forwarding, even if it gives it a different name -- it's a pretty standard feature. What make/model device is it? www.portforward.com has instructions for a whole bunch of stuff.

Thanx a lot Tuttle the site is really comprehensive...
I didn't expect to find any configuration for my device!!!It surprised me that there is one actually...
I was looking about the port forwarding config in the built-in management tool(which is rather poor)
The options described in the site do not contain any use of that tool
ANYWAY i'll look into it and write back if anything goes wrong
By the way i didn't mention that the router is plugged in the usb port...
Perhaps it would be better if i switched it to an Ethernet?
Thanx in advance(again)

Ethernet is generally a better option, but it shouldn't make any difference for this purpose.

OK back in the subject!!
I installed the modem in the Ethernet port, i've set it up but i still have some problems...
The thing is, i try to connect from my work PC(Radmin client)to the PC at home(Radmin Server)and sometimes i manage to connect, and some other times i get an error(Client I/O Error).I tried all options(including screen options and refresh rate)
No solution
I should remark that when i manage to connect, the upload bandwidth(on the remote)is full so i got a REALLY slow remote use.
I just mentioned it in case sm has an idea(even though i believe it's irrelevant since the error refers to the client)
I can tell that this is an issue that has to do ONLY with the certain application so if it is possible to go on with the subject i would like some advice if anyone can help...I tried to get some help from the company's support forum but i get no response.
Otherwise we can consider the case closed since i managed to configure the router...
Thanx for the help anywayss...
