Looking for cheap/free web hosting for my club
I am seeking recommendations for a web host for a club I belong to. The website would be for club news, events, etc. We have only about 100 members so I assume the monthly bandwidth would be small. Something free would be great but we would be willing to pay a small fee to eliminate pop-ups or banner ads. When I do a google search for hosting I get hundreds of hits, but I would like to get some idea of the best picks.

I just took a look at the ads for hosting services and something that struck me is that the so-called budget hosts are as expensive as the bigger ones. I'm a bit dubious about my host. They are so cheap and have too many good intro deals! Excellent technical support response. I pay by the year at about $8 a month for 10Gb storage and 300Gb bandwidth, no ads. That is a good yardstick when you look at the cheapos.
Don't commit long-term until you are satisfied with a host. If you do, don't expect to get any money back if you cancel.

Have you looked into setting up a group page on MSN or Yahoo? You can have everyone join and post messages.

Since this thread started and I reported my host was charging about $8 for 10Gb and 300Gb/yr, they've now upgraded to 25Gb and 300Gb/mo. Getting cheaper per Gb by the minute!
