    MSN Messenger 7.5

I am running Windows XP Pro, IE 7 Beta 2 (default browser), FireFox (actual browser being used) and have downloaded and installed MSN Messenger 7.5. I would prefer to use MSN's messenger rather then Trillian, GAIM, etc.

It appears as if MSN Messenger 7.5 has installed correctly, as I can run the app. I log onto my profile, and it even gets so far as to show me my contacts as well as the MSN Today page. Within 15 seconds of me signing in however, I get the following error:
Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The only option is to close MSN Messenger.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this to happen and how to fix it? Microsoft's KB has nothing, and Google didn't find anything useful.

When you get the error again, click the "click here" link and post the contents of the error report.

Have you tried repairing MSN Messenger?

    1. In the notification area on the taskbar (near the clock), click the MSN Messenger icon, and then click Exit.

    2. Follow the steps for your operating system:
      • For users of Microsoft Windows XP:

On the taskbar, click Start | Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Under Currently installed programs, click MSN Messenger, and then click Change.

      • For users of a Microsoft Windows operating system other than Microsoft Windows XP:

On the taskbar, click Start | Control Panel.

        Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Under Currently installed programs, click MSN Messenger, and then click Change.

    3. Click Repair.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you might try Microsoft's MSN Messenger E-mail Support:

I tried reinstalling Messenger several times (including downloading the install file again just in case my original was corrupt). I have also browsed through Microsoft's KB articles, but without a specific error message, its rather useless, as is the E-mail support.

I emailed their support (per your advice). I will post back once they reply.

Hmm, I forget how long it takes to get any type of response when emailing a support like MSN. Maybe by Monday or Tuesday...

Well, as seems typical with Microsoft, I contacted their support by sending an email to their support address. I filled out all the necessary fields. Yesterday, I received an email asking me to fill out a survey on how well they provided help.

I never heard a response other then the survey. Looks like MS is no help.

Great. And I'm fresh out of ideas too.

Hopefully someone else with more knowledge and experience with MSN Messenger will jump in here soon ...
