hi,
i recently downloaded a program called 'Hide IP' as i am on a large network and this gives everyone the same IP. as this is the case any site that only allows 1 computer from the same IP often won't work. unfortunately hide IP didn't do much for me either so i uninstalled it and went back to normal. only problem is it seems this program resets the 'connection settings' in firefox which i need to configure for the network. but even though it's uninstalled firefox needs to be configured every time i open it and it's driving me crazy.
so the plan was to completely uninstalled firefox, re-install and see if that does the trick. but when i uninstall it, and remove it's entry in program files it never quite does what it says. i know this as when i re-install all my themes fav's etc are there. so is there a way to make sure you get rid of everything?

Are you also removing the FF profile? In XP, it would be something like C:\Documents and Settings\Current User (or whoever)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
If you need to, backup your cookies.txt, cookiesnew.txt and bookmarks.html that are in the profile. When you reload FF, you will need to redo the look and feel of it (including any extensions you ran) but your cookies and bookmarks can be placed back into the new profile and live on...
It looks like you need to set XP to view all files/folders.
Take a look at my photo. (Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options... and choose the View Tab. The 3 settings you need to look at are Show hidden files and folders, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and uncheck Hide protected operating system files.
This should help you see the Applications Data folder.
