Installed devices losing it's drivers in XP
We had just installed XP home back in Dec. Have scanner, cd-rom and USB card reader all installed back then and they worked fine. Now last week I went to use the scanner and had to reinstall the driver. Sunday I had to do the same with the USB card reader and noticed last night my CD-rom is not being recognized. When I had 98SE I never had these problems. Did virus/spyware scans all came out clean. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you able to go to the manufactors websites and download XP compatable drivers. You may be having driver issues here. You shouldn't be having problems with the CDrom as XP has a good data base for most drivers.

All drivers are from manufactures site and are all XP compatable. CD-rom was working then stopped.

Does the light on your cd rom blink any when you insert a cd or when the system boots? Could be some dust on the optical lens inside. Check and be sure the ribbon cable is secure.

Try this fix, it often does the trick for CDROM drives:
CDROM or DVD drives appear to be missing...

No lights at all with CDrom and yes cables are secure. Super I havent tried the fix yet. But the thing is it won't cure the problems with the other drivers.
