Well I reflashed the BIOS, downloaded and burned build 3265, and it booted from the CD and ran Setup and then installed just fine. It took 1 hour exactly

I guess I'll never know whether they fixed the installer for this build or whether it was the BIOS flash that did it, but I'm a happy bunny now. At long, long, long last, I finally have Vista x64 to play with
