[RESOLVED] Saving Emails

Hey


i want to format my computer to see if it makes it works again and i haveaload of email in my microsoft outlook. how do i make a backup of all then so i can copy them to cd and then copy them back into microsoft outlook after formattin as i dont want to loose my emails?

Look for your ".pst" files. The default location will be something similar to the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

In that folder i have 3 files, outlook, archive and a DAT file called extend. do i just copy all them to cd and when i have formatted my laptop and install microsoft outlook again just place them 3 files back into C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook?

if its not that how do i go about it?

Download the PST Backup utility here, it makes it very easy to save all your stuff, and then it's easy to reimport them again after Outlook is reinstalled>

rbc1000--You can save OE messages.
There are two ways, depending on what you plan to do with them .
1) To save the various OE email folders

This is quick, and you can easily reimport the messages back to OE by following the directions. The disadvantage to this approach is that you cannot read the saved .dbx files. They can be read only by reimporting them into OE.
2) If you want to save the messages in a format you can read, create a new folder (anywhere convenient--such as My Documents). Then, in an open OE window (like Inbox) hold down Control and right click on all the messages you want to save. This will highlight all the messages. Let up on Control and right click on any one of the highlighted messages and drag/drop the whole bunch on top of the new folder you created. All your messages will now be saved as .eml files which can be opened and read by just clicking on one. However, these messages cannot be imported back into OE unless you manually send each one back to your OE account.
In method 2, you really do not have to create the new folder, but if you do not, you will be dumping all the highlighted messages wherever you drag and drop them. That could be messy.
