DSL Availablity

I have to say, you'd think by THIS time that DSL would be available for plenty of phone numbers these days, but, it's not.

Good thing for Cable Internet. I did a phone number check on my phone in this area and STILL DSL isn't available for my number.

I know the reason WHY this is so (Due to the location of the technologically geographically to the residence)

However you'd think by NOW it'd be available to anyone that didn't live in a cabin in the woods.

The FCC and other beurocratic organizations killed DSL. The government originally allowed the big telcos to install DSLAMS and fiber with an agreement that the company that installed the fiber owned it. After a few years, the government forced them to open up their equipment to competitors, on the grounds that competition would be good for the fair market, and gave the underdogs advantages by regulating the pricing structure. And competitors got priority over the companies that installed the lines. So why would AT&T pay to install a line somewhere when all they'd be doing is making sure the other smaller phone companies could offer service to their customers first, and for less than AT&T could charge?
The reason the rest of us don't have DSL is because the telco industry is seriously overregulated. And that's why everybody has cable.... which is regulated primarily on the county and municipality level.
