I know I'm being cynical about this, but despite all the publicity MS is leaking out about the system requirements it will take to run Vista (even half-decently), I'm just gritting my teeth waiting for the inevitable millions of complaints that will be generated by people who are going to try anyway to get it to run on their below-standard systems. They won't have any excuse, but they will try to make one up anyway. No matter how you may try to circumvent the issues, you simply can't make a rider mower keep up with traffic on the interstate. (I know....that was a profound statement....worthy of framing and putting on the wall....please feel free to make your own copies)
IMHO they have made the Vista requirements too high....it leaves a LOT of people in the dust, forcing them to either stick with XP or pay the piper for the latest and greatest hardware....something that a lot of folks simply cannot afford. I think Micropuff is really kicking people while they're down on this issue.

and M$ can display all there new security stuff but i think we all know there will be ways to get around it. the key is not to try and stop piracy fully but to make it so difficult that your average computer user can't do it. And I think this could help. But then again at first i thought this online authentication was a very strong idea but just the other day i came across a program that would allow you to fool the M$ servers.
P.S. think my internet is just playing up. works now

What's the point of having all these bells and whistles in hardware when you can't even capitalize on them? Linux has supported multi-mon 3d for years and the only way to get it in Windows before Vista was through hacks, workarounds, and proprietary hardware. XP will still load! It will still be supported. You will still be able to buy it. Microsoft needs to be able to offer a true 64-bit os, not the clumsy port of XP. Let us geeks have our fun! In eight years when you buy my old rig on eBay you can try vista then!
Anybody understand how this copy protection is going to be any different than authentication now? Are we going to have to enter a THIRD key when we install?

Actually, I heard you will need to submit FIVE keys, fill out a 75-item questionaire, submit a DNA sample and get a note from your Mom or legal guardian that you actually are who you say you are and that you have an authentic copy.....
It's gonna be even harder if you have to phone it in....trying to convince the MS support guy in India (you know....the dude who introduces himself as "Ralph") that you are being honest about it.

Dial 1 if you want help in English or a facsimile thereof...
Dial 2 if you want help in any other language....spoken by a non-native speaker...
Dial 3 if this is a hardware problem...if you aren't sure, stay on the line for the next half-hour, listening to our static-filled "Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits" until a representative can answer your call...
Dial 4 if this is a software problem...if you aren't sure, dial 1-91-999-456-3200 and ask for Mr. Dasrewqf Ythjnmsdefkjl to help you...he can then redirect your call through Guam to Christmas Island to Morrocco and then via trunk call to somewhere else where there might be someone who can help....
Dial 5 if you are really getting ticked off listening to these options...remember: this call is being monitored for quality purposes....we also like to hear and record new and exciting swear words....
Dial 6 if you wish to talk to a representative on the opposite side of the world to complain about all these options...because by now you've completely forgotten why you are calling in the first place...
Dial 7 if you are masochistic and want to hear all these options again...
Dial 8 for our pre-recorded 5-minute session with Dr. Phil: "How to Get Touchy-Feely with your Computer"...
Dial 9 repeatedly....it will not do anything, but it will keep you entertained while you wait for a real human to answer...
Can't wait for Vista....

don't microsoft ever learn? you can't stop pirates. Windows xp activation was supposed to be uncrackble but it was reported that it was cracked 2 weeks before it was released. I see same thing happen with windows vista.

I sure those graphics are cool ... but cool get tired and uncool very quickly ... instead of concentrating on eye candies, why don't they concentrate on making Windows a better OS for actual computing? I am not saying that Vista is not a better OS ... I don't know, may be it is, I am just saying that it probably will be even better if more resources and talents are spent in the area of actual computing ... well ... may be it's just me.
