    DDR 400 in 266FSB mobo

    My mobo's FSB is 133 doubled to 266 top. Can I put in a DDR400 memory? Do I need to change anything in terms of the FSB?

    Read your motherboards manual. It will outline what memory is correct for your board. If you don't have the manual, Google it. You'll find it. If the board is an older model I doubt if the DDR 400 module will be the correct module for it.

    crucial system scanner should tell you exactly what memory your computer can use;

    DDR400 should work without any problems, but you won't gain any performance by fitting it - it will still only run at DDR266 speeds.

    manual says it supports up to DDR266 but Crucial lists DDR4000 as suitable also. That's why I ask. I may upgrade to a faster mobo later and I am thinking if the DDR400 will work w/ the present mobo i'll buy it now and save some money if i do upgrade to a faster mobo later. is it ok like this?

    like super said it should work fine but it will just be limited to the max your mobo can support.

    no problem. can't say i have ever heard of that memory. i would be more inclined to go with crucial, OCZ, corsair, geil myself. And I have seen to many memory problems causing havoc with computers to buy anything else.

    I agree, with RAM it pays to stick with the good stuff. I've never heard of Elixir either.

    You might be able to overclock your board more effectively with DDR400 memory, since memory is usually the bottleneck for OC-ing anyway. You're probably not very interested in tweaking performance on an older rig, but for experimenting's sake, it can be fun!

    Thank you guys, again, for the advices. I guess I'll stick w/ Crucial even though they're more pricey

    Check out Kingston; http://www.kingston.com/
    their memory products are very good and usually a little cheaper than Crucial. They also stand behind what they sell.
