    Question Doom collectors edition problems.

I have the Doom Collectors Edition that recently came out with Doom I, II, and Final Doom on it. It looks like it can play over the internet on servers and such. Very intriguing.

However, I cannot get the mouse to work on it. Even when I go to its little setup dialog box thingees and set the mouse and controls the way I want it, it just doesn't register. Two friends then both tried installing it on their computers and then ended up with the same problem.

Is anybody familiar with Doom CE and this problem? I did internet searches trying to see maybe if there was a patch to download to fix it with no luck. Found no mention of the problem anywhere.

    Doom Collector's Edition Mouse Problem

I got the disc today and had the same problem. the setup as you said does not work, and neither does the online tech support help.
but get this, the problem is the doom95.exe file.
I downloaded the shareware dos version of doom 1. (Do a google, you'll find it) Then I copied doom.exe and setup.exe to the directory for Ultimate Doom and ran the the setup, then used Doom.exe instead of doom95.exe, and the mouse worked and even worked on an xp windows machine when I copied over the directory. (no install)

I had an old floppy version of Doom 2, copied over the Doom2.exe and setup.exe again, and Doom 2 worked. For Final Doom, it was harder. I made two copies of the folder and copied over Doom2.exe and setup.exe, and renamed the .wad files from tnt.wad and plutonia.wad in 2 separate folders to Doom2.wad. That made 4 versions of Doom that all work with the mouse and also work on XP machnes.

You would think that they could figure that out....huh?????

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'll check into it. Do the internet online functions still work? Have you figured out how to use them?

You just cut and pasted the DOOM folder with DOS Doom to an XP machine and it worked? That's interesting.

However, there should be a patch for this. I mean, its damn near unplayable without the mouse functioning correctly. I wonder if ID knows about this. I'll send them an E-mail or something and tell their butts to get on a more elegant patch or 'fix' for it. Hell, you pay money for the damn thing and I don't believe in jumping through a bunch of hoops and crap just to get it to do what its originally suppose to do. Sheesh.

    "support", yeah right!

ID doesn't do support on this package, they leave that to Activision. I emailed them as soon as I saw the problem. Allerting them to the fact that I have had Doom II dos version, working for years on my USB mouse and my XP running notebook. Then, I told them when I found the fix and asked if they would post the dos exe files. No answer either time.

I have not tried the online parts of the game, And there is this, when you start the game, don't wait for the demo to run, it will stop the program and say it's from another game. (Just like it always did when you used custom .wad files) Go ahead an pick new game, load game etc.

    Doom Collector's Edition Mouse Problem

hey it works, had an old copy of doom shareware, copied the files over, ran setup and now my ultimate doom works, thanks for the tip.

I dont have an old copy of Doom 2 so if anyone can email me the Doom2.exe and setup.exe, I'd be much appreciative.

ok its 5 years old problem but I revisited this and now have a really good solution.

ZDOOM. Just download the 2.4.1 or whatever is the latest at the time you look into it and unzip Zdoom into each of the Doom, Doom II and Final Doom folders. Retarget the icons in their respective folders that come with this to point at Zdoom instead of Doom95.
