Question How much memory and what kind can my mobo support?

I have an Asus A7V8X-X mobo in one of my systems. Right now it has 2x256 MB PC3200 modules in it. I’m thinking about adding some to increase total capacity. I’ve looked through the mobo manual and can’t make sense of something. Here is what is said about the memory capabilities of my mobo:

“The motherboard has three DDR sockets that support up to 3 GB unbuffered non-ECC PC3200/2700/2100/1600 DDR DIMMs.”

And in another place it says this:

“DDR DIMM sockets. These three 184-pin DIMM sockets support up to 3 gigs system memory using unbuffered non-ECC PC2100/1600 DDR DIMMs. (Note: PC2700 maximum to 4 banks only. PC3200 maximum to 2 banks only.”

I’m confused. I do understand that the mobo will support up to 3 GB using PC2100/1600 memory. What confuses me is the ability of the mobo to support PC2700 and PC3200 memory. Right now I have 512 MB of PC3200 memory in my system (2x256 MB chips). Is this information saying that if I add another PC3200 stick of RAM the system won’t recognize? If so, can you tell if it says that if I add a stick of PC2700 memory it will or will not recognize it? I’m a bit confused as you can see.

Don't worry about that reference to banks. If you add another stick of PC3200 it will be recognised just fine.

Thanks for the quick reply, Nick. Is there something I missed? I'd like to know how you are sure of this before I spend even a measley $20 on another 256 MB DIMM.
