Fax software by Microsoft XP: Cannot find it
I am using XP.
Have been having problems with winfax 10.02 and cannot seem to get the problem resolved. (To some numbers, winfax is sending many, many copies of the first page). A very nice-sounding Indian tech supporter is sending me on wild goose chases to try to resolve the problem.
On this website, several have mentioned that you are using the fax software that comes with XP. Went to the fax area of XP and the MS fax is grey; I cannot access it. This probably means that when XP was loaded in, the fax feature was not loaded in. No, I do not have the XP CD used to load it in.
Will any XP CD suffice, or do I have to have the original CD? Can I just take my computer into the shop and ask someone to load in the fax portion of the XP software?
I like Winfax, but if it is causing problems, I need to use an alternative. (When my recipient is receving 10 copies of page 1 and none of pages 2 and 3, I have a problem.)

aob--Here is a tutorial on Win XP Fax
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/winxpfax.htm
Without a WinXP CD you will have to see if the program already resides on your PC. Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|in the left margin click Add/Remove Windows Components. Is Fax Services listed? If so, you are in luck. Follow the directions.
If not, someone else will have to tell you if you can use a WinXP CD not meant for your PC. I suspect the answer is yes, but have no experience. I also cannot tell you what to look for on the other CD, but I suppose it must include the word "Fax".

welshjim:
Checked Add/Remove and there is no reference to MS fax software. Will check next week to see if any XP software will suffice.
Thanks.

Did you check under Add or Remove Programs then select Add/Remove Windows Components
If it is installed it will have a tick against Fax Services
if it isnt ticked and, as welsh jim commented, you have your WinXp cd, then it can be installed.. if yo have a HP/Compaq, Acer, Dell the Fax services are installed by default

I have a concord Winfax plugin, whatever that is. I do not have any other fax software shown in the Add/Remove area. I do not have my XP CD. I will check to see if any XP CD will suffice.
