[RESOLVED] no audio from DVD
have a new system (see below)...everything works great except no audio from the Lite-On DVD. Audio works for CD-RW and everywhere else. The CD-RW & DVD I already had on previous system. Nero installed just fine but when I went to install the Power DVD software it asked for the product key....which I somehow had not written down ( I keep all product keys, etc..on file...don't know why I missed this one.. ). Could this be the reason? I thought that Power DVD was just for enhanced video watching...?? I even tried connecting the little 4 pin (?) audio connector from DVD to m/b cd-audio spot but no go...was under the impression that that connection was not needed anyway...but I tried it nonetheless...checked in Bios...didn't see anything there ...unless I just missed it...??

Go into Device Manager (Windows key + Pause, Hardware tab), then right-click on the DVD drive and choose Properties. In the Properties tab, check "Enable digital CD audio for this CDROM device".

SuperSparks...still no sound...what else can I try? I have a video running right now and have checked to be sure that mute is off...volume level is up...the video plays okay on my home theatre system so I know that the video is okay....BTW...the only thing that I had ever used the DVD for before this was just to burn back-ups of my system...never actually played any videos....I couldn't listen to any tunes because the old sound card that I had was not 5.1 capable ( which led me to just building a new system...!!)

Double-click the volume control in the System Notification area, then in the Options menu, choose Properties and check all the controls in there. Then make sure that the volume is up on CD Digital and CD audio, and that they aren't muted.

I have the Realtek AC97 Audio (on-board)...don't have a sound card until or unless I decide that the on-board sound just isn't good enough....all controls are 'on'...mute is off...I'm gonna assume that this is just some little thing that hasn't been done yet...curious...BTW...I gotta run some errands...be back later...thanks for your help...Question: it doesn't matter which of the CD or the DVD is set to master and slave, does it? I have the CD as master but can easily switch it around....gotta go....

Nope, the Master and Slave settings make no difference whatsoever.

still no sound
SuperSparks..I got busy...Life gets in the way of having fun with this computer..!! Anyway...I can listen to audio cd's..burn DVD's..everything else on this DVD...except have the audio work on videos.I have tried several different DVD videos...the video part works just fine...just no sound from videos. I also noticed that the headphone jack is also dead ...Could I possibly just have a defective player? Thankfully, DVD players are inexpensive.

K-lite full is the base codec package I use. http://www.free-codecs.com/download..._Codec_Pack.htm
Then because I hit a couple that K-lite could not handle, I also use the Coda codec
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multim...odec-pack.shtml
Did a full install of it instead of the default and have been good since then.
