[RESOLVED] oops! need for M$ word recovery help

hi,
i have just been a bit clumsy and accidentally deleted a document that i was writing. to make things worse i saved it after i deleted it by accident. i could do with having this word document back so i need to know if there is any way that maybe possible. i know word auto saves the documents form time to time when working on them so will these old saves still exist? and if so where?

Try Restoration, put it on a floppy and run it from there, then there's no chance of it overrwriting the file that you deleted:

nice program that I’m sure will no doubt prove in valuable one day.
but after reading my post again i can see that it is a bit misleading. what i meant to say was i was writing in word and then deleted all the work by highlighting it and pressing delete. i then accidentally pressed 'save' and as such overwrote the previous document with a blank one. so is there any way to recover the old one which i have just over written?

Ah, I'm with you. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way of rolling back in time by using the Autorecover file, your manual save will overwrite it. But if you haven't shut down Word yet, you can get the text back back by using undo.

You can find the location of your Autorecover files by looking in Tools>Options>File Locations.

well i have looked and can't find it. lucky i printed it off before i deleted it. i'll just have to hope i don't need to use it again.

Judge John,

There are two possible solutions to preventing this situation from occurring in the future. Use a backup program (like Acronis True Image) and do a full backup followed by daily incremental backups.

I also do not overwrite existing files. I put a date on every document as to when it was created or updated. That way, if I decide to make changes tomorrow, that updated document will have tomorrow's date. If by chance, tomorrow's document gets deleted, I still have today's document.

i know, i should do but I’m lazy. and i only rarely actually write documents that are of any importance if lost.
proof of this laziness is that the only reason i deleted everything in the first place was because it was quicker than opening an new word document, i mean how stupid is that! i then accidentally slipped and clicked on the 'file' menu. and unfortunately cause i use XP the menu's auto shortens it's self so that 'save' is on the top. so it was really just one mess up after another that I’m sure won't happen again. well not in the same way.
