[RESOLVED] How to I.D.cpu core type

Yesterday my new case arrived( Coolermaster 532) and I installed the Abit NV8 m/b. Today the cpu,psu,card,ram,hdd. arrived. The cpu is an Athlon 64 3000+ 754 socket...with Venice core. Yep..a Venice core on a 754 socket! I ordered that cpu specifically for the Venice core. My question...I would like to confirm that the processor that Newegg sent me is the Venice core. The box gives no info on that...how do you read the code that is on the processor to tell what type of core that it is? These are the three lines of code: 1.ADA3000AIK4BX. 2. CBBWE O544DAF. 3.XO36357K51402. I am gonna wait until tomorrow morning to install everything...

Hey, Judge...well, my final "cost creep" was about $200.00 over what I thought I might initially spend...I guess I got away lucky !! I haven't installed the cpu yet...I might do some tonite after I unwind from a long week...but I was hoping that I could verify that I actually received the correct processor...because if by accident ( several of the reviewers at Newegg stated that they had been sent the wrong item), then I will have to decide if I want to send the cpu back and wait for the correct one or just keep what they sent me. Which leads to this question: What are the differences between these core types: Clawhammer..Newcastle...Venice..?? From what I have read, the Venice seems to be the favorite for various reasons. Oh..btw..I have Everest...I like it...lots of good info. about your sysyem.

well unfortunately i have never owned an AMD based computer. as such i know little about them and will have to leave it to someone else to answer the differences in core types. if it's anything like Intel ones then the names indicate the age. for instance a Northwood is older than a Prescott, but with Intel these CPU's also have different cache’s etc. i would assume the newer core type would be best but i don't know the relative ages of them.
and I’m not sure how easy it will be to identify the CPU of it's code. you may have to assemble the computer to find out, but i hope that’s not the case to save you time and effort.
also good to see your "cost creep" was not to high, and I’m sure the extra $200 will be worth it in the long run.

Eureka...I went back to the AMD site and went to their forum and found lots of discussion about the different cores...a lot of o/c'ing stuff...and found my exact question...and the answer...which is ..yes, I do indeed have the Venice core. A poster gave me the following link that gives a lot of specs about Athlon processors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...icroprocessors . I didn't know that Wikipedia had that kind of info.!!

Here's the only Google result to confirm the Venice nickname. The specs all match and it's the same product number. Hope this helps.

EDIT--You're more patient than I am, wading through the AMD forums! Take Wikipedia with a grain of salt. I'm never sure how thoroughly the contributors research their posts.

It's Russian. It's actually easy to figure out most of it once you learn the Cyrillic alphabet--most of their technical terms are borrowed from English.

lgbpop...I have heard that English is one of the hardest languages to learn...coming from so many different root languages...so much slang...I personally like to hear the French language...slides smoothly ...It is kinda funny to hear a foreign ( before too long, we will have to re-define what 'foreign' means!!), language being spoken and then hear English words mixed in.

Man, does that bring back a vivid memory...back in the '60's on Sunday mornings my Dad would have the radio on while we had breakfast and got ready for church. He loved polka music, and always listened to WACE-AM (730, I still remember) out of Chicopee Mass., to a guy named Andy Szczebrilla (not sure of the spelling ) who spoke rapid-fire Polish. When he'd do a commercial for a local business, hearing the name in English was almost jarring. It always made us all laugh.
