Resolved [RESOLVED] Enable folder sharing on Windows Media Connect?

    Hello there,

Can someone help me out please?

I have just connected my Xbox 360 up with my Win XP Media Center. When i first set it up with the folders i choose, everything played and showed up fine, but i only used these folders to try out first.

I decided to start Windows Media Connect and Media Center and set it up properly with the media i wanted.

When i start Windows media connect, a ballon will pop up saying "Folder sharing is not started click here to start folder sharing"

When i go in to enable folder sharing, the folder sharing share that i should tick is greyed out so i can't tick it.

If i click the start folder sharing button i get this message....."Folder sharing could not be started. For details, use event viewer in windows to check the log of system events"I don't know what i should do next, can anyone help?

    Cheers!

jpop GT, Welcome to Virtual DR!

Are there any clues in Event Viewer? Click Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer. For more information, see the following MS KB Article:

Maybe this has something to do with it.....

The Windows media Connect Service depends on the Universal Plug and Play Device Host service which failed to start because of thefollowing error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enables devices associated with it.

That looks like it that might be it.

    1. Click Start, Run, type services.msc and then click Ok.
    2. Scroll down until you see the Universal Plug and Play Device Host Service. Look at the Universal Plug and Play Device Host service. The startup type should be set to Manual.

If that doesn't work try the following:

Click Start, click Run, type "regsvr32 upnphost.dll" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.

    Same problem

    Hey ecross,

I'm having the same problem with Windows Media Connect; but I can't fix it either.
-I've enabled PnP in the BIOS
-I've changed the values in the registry to run upnphost and SSDPSRV
-I've checked under services.msc and Universal Plug & Play is missing
-I've run RegSvr32 upnphost.dll and I get the error message DllRegisterServer in upnphost.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80070424.

I don't really know what else to do . Do you have any bright ideas?

    Thanks in advance, Nathan
