I am having trouble building a comp.

This is my first attempt to build a PC. Yesterday i put all the parts together, and when i turned the power on, there was no signal to my monitor. . My mother board is an A8S-X. My processor is a AMD Athlon 64. My graphics card is a GeFORCE FX 5500. I think my hard drive is a Quick View?? I am sure i am missing something. Can anyone help me?

    Did you use the standoffs?

If not, then the mobo is grounded to the case and will not start. An if you left extras under the mobo, the same thing happens.

what exactly are the standoffs? is that the little thingys that the monitor cord plugs/screws into? cuz i did plug and screw the cord in. I think that maybe my graphics card is not getting any power. How can i solve that?

The standoffs screw into the case and then you mount the mobo to them.
Now for the backplate in the picture, in some cases it is removable as shown, but you can see the standoffs mounted. You should have some in your case also.

No, nothing will work if the mobo is grounded.

Thank you for your advice! i ended up going to a computer store to ask them what was wrong, and they figured it out in 2 seconds. I had one of my RAM thingys in the wrong spot, and i also needed to connect my power supply into one other thing on my mother board. I really appreciate all of your help!
