Resolved [RESOLVED] Newbie problem : can't share the printer

I can't share my printer. I have set it up as shared. The icon of the
printer with a hand appears. When I use the add a printer wizard on
the second pc, I get the name of the network and the name of the
computer the printer is connected to, but not the name of the printer.
The firewall is turned off. I use Windows XP pro and the printer is a Canon 4200 and the router a Netgear WGT624. By the way, another question: is it better to setup the usb adapter as ad hoc or access point ? I get a better connection using ad hoc, but no connection with the router.

    Try this:

On the PC the printer is on:

    Start>Run>cmd [enter]

now in the DOS window, type: ipconfig [enter]

From this you can find the IP Address.

On the second PC, click Start>Run>\\IPOF1stPC

    For instance, \\192.168.1.2

When the window comes up, just right click on the printer and click connect.

Thank you for the answer. I "solved" the problem by turning my Norton firewall off and I could share everything. Now the problem is how to set up Norton to use it on the network. The issue in Norton support leads to a dead link.

With Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security, there should be a way to add the ip addresses to the Trused Zone. Details here.
