    Can not Play this CD???

    I have WMP version 10.00.003646. Just check and it is up to date.
    A friend of mine gave me this CD which contains a tv interview with a back ground music of a person I know. But for some reason WMP is not Playing it. E drive opens 4 files and they have VCD and DAT files in them.
    I have tried the CD on another Windows XP HE with WMP version 10 and it plays it.
    What might be my problem please?

    Yours may need the codecs for it to play that cd. Have you installed any since updating wmp to latest updates. btw, updates doesn't install codecs, just security stuff.

    Photolady, Thank you for your reply. No, I have not installed any codecs. Before I started to this thread I made a search regarding the codecs but to be honest I just could not understand it. If someone can give me a link for what I need to install it would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

    The standard pack is the one most of us use.

    There is this Configuration/FFdshow/Audio decoder Configuration or Video Decoder Configuration choices......Do I suppose to do anything with them Please? Or Codec Tweak Tool.....?????
    I am so sorry for being an absulate idiot.

    Try Gspot it should inform you of the correct codec to play the media.

    Thanks everyone, you have been trying to help me but unfortunately I still am not able to view this CD. Peculiar thing is, as I said earlier, this CD is perfetly OK to view on another PC.
    Anyway any other suggestions are more than welcome.

    Is it just that one CD that you can't view? Or any video CD?

    Have you tried either dragging and dropping the file onto WMP or browsing directly to it?

    And try Mplayer2 just for the heck of it. It's an older version of WMP that's hidden on your drive.

    Start>run [type] mplayer2 [enter]

    I have no other CD to try here. I suppose I'll find one and try that one too. But I can view all the music videos on my Laptop.

    Yes I did.

    Same!!!!!

    When I insert the CD instead of WMP(default) VCD2 (E) drive opens. There are four files in it.

    EXT= LOT_X.VCD and PSD_V.PCD
    MPEGAV= AVSEQ01.DAT
    SEGMENT= ITEM0001.DAT
    VCD= ENTRIES.VCD, INFO.VCD, LOT.VCD and PSD.VCD

    AYSEQ01.DAT file only plays the music.
    SSEGMENT = ITEM0001.DAT file only shows one capture scene.

    I am not sure if any of above info might help?
    Thank you.

    This would suggest a VCD disk which you could either use a codec that supports this or a stand a lone player.

    Thank you for your answer 104456.
    When I downloaded "K-Light Codec Pack" I was under the impression that the necessary codec would be loaded. May be it is there somewhere but I have no idea how to enable it.
    As you have suggested earlier I have tried Gspot (which is included in K-Light Codec Pack) but it did not make much sense to a novice like me.
    Thank you.

    If you post a screen shot of Gspot it may help those assisting you.You can use somewhere like Photobucket to host the image if you dont have a web site.
