MagicSpin DVD RW DL Problem
I extracted this drive from a non working PC and installed it in a 1.7 ghz, 512 ram Rig with WXP pro SP2, Nero 6 ultra with updates,
every thing is connected and jumped properly
I booted the Rig and the drive is recognized in my computer and DM,
it reads all data cd's well, but not music,
and it won't read, write or play any DVD's movies or files as well.
This drive is manufactured by Top-G and the model # is DVDRW 1004IM,
the S/N is p10341022941, it is a 2003 model.
I thought that I might have to upgrade the firmware,
but since Top-G makes this drive with different brand names this turned out to be a big problem for me.
maybe you guys might give me a hand on this issue.

WRT the music problem, go into Device Manager and make sure that the volume is properly adjusted and digital audio is enabled for the drive.
WRT the DVD problem, make sure the DVD's are clean and unscratched.
If that's ok, then see if cleaning the lens helps, and try different brands of DVD media.
Also, I did some googling for that drive, and could not find any firmware updates.

Those are the standard procedures to test if the drive is working, if a lens cleaner/different media etc don't help, then it looks as though the drive maybe damaged, particularly the DVD lens.
And this line:
and it won't read, write or play any DVD's movies or files as well.
tells me that it maybe time to replace the drive...they are pretty cheap at the moment, so "get 'em while they're hot."
I don't know if a new IDE cable could help, but i'd try it before spending any money.....
