track printer usage
The office purchased a Xerox DocuColor 3535. Everyone has access to the printer, but in order to copy/scan you must enter a passkey. Printing has no limitations (couldn't determine how to do this via the printers settings), so we have relied on the Job Log in order to determine who prints and how much was printed. The first billing cycle we had it, we accidentally deleted teh job log so our Marketing department ate the bill (it was originally their request for the printer). This billing cycle, we have the job log, but now realized the log only keeps track of who printed and how many copies of each file were printed at one time. For example UserA might decide to print a one page document 8 times (selecting 8 copies in the Print menu). Unfortunately the job log doesn't track the number of pages. So, if UserB decides to print a ten page document 8 times, the job log looks the same for both:
UserA printed 8 copies
UserB printed 8 copies
Any suggestions for how to track this?

Well, since nobody responded I'll give it a quick 2¢ worth...
I don't know about this specific model, but if the printer's software itself is what is creating the job log, and you don't get any more details than you've reported, I don't think there's another path to derive this information. Unless the printer software that creates the log is capable, I don't know of any way to interrupt or intercede in the process. Sorry, but if I'm wrong, maybe someone else will chime in here. (I'm wrong often enough that I think the REALLY knowledgable members of VirtualDr are always following my posts around to correct my misinformation... maybe that'll be a GOOD thing for you!)
Various Windows and Linux platforms...
