keyboard lacality

hello. i have purchased a 2nd hand laptop with windows 98 pre installed. the keyboard is setup for USA use and i use a UK keyboard so my symbol keys are all mixed up. i have tried to change the keyboard settings but am asked for the win 98 cd. i have xp on my pc. am i able to copy my UK keyboard settings onto a floppy and transfer them to my laptop? i did this with my mouse icons.

Have a look on the hard drive and see if there's a folder..

c:\windows\options\cabs

If there is then the files you need are already there.. The "cabs" folder is where all the 98 install files are kept if the original install was done by transfering the CD files to the hard drive for the install... not uncommon.

When asked for the Win98 CD aim it there instead.

Otherwise You're eventually going to need a CD at some point because every time you make a system change or need to repair something you'll be stuck. Win98 CDs are pretty cheap these days. Check ebay.
