Resolved [RESOLVED] Nero Ultra 7 curious problem...

I recently downloaded a couple of large .zip files, and saved them directly to my desktop instead of into a more "normal" folder. I've never done that before, and the reasons that I saved to the desktop this time is immaterial.

The problem is, when I went into Nero Express to make a data CD that would include these two .zip files on my desktop, Nero apparently couldn't or wouldn't see them! I mean, it was - from Nero's interface - as though the files didn't exist in that location at all! They were not hidden, system, or other unusual attribute, and once I had extracted the files into another folder, I was (of course) able to get my backup burned.

But... why in the WORLD would Nero be unable/unwilling to see/backup two .zip files from the desktop? Am I overlooking something really obvious here?

Did you have the filetypes dropdown set to show "All Files"?

Have you checked the Properties of the .zip files? have you tried creating a .zip file, placing it on the desktop and trying Nero again? works okay for me....with version 6....i ran into some installation problems with 7 so i left it for now, until blu-ray arrives i don't really need it.

Unfortunately no, and the particular files are already deleted from the desktop, and were very large, so I don't want to d/l them again just to try this... However, I will create some of my own and test further, and if I can't replicate the behavior I WILL d/l the originals in the same manner again when I get more time just to try and bring resolution to this. I'll let you know, and thanks for the help...

Well, I sure hate those rare "voodoo"/no explanation type failures...!!!

I created new .zip files, placed them on the desktop, tried Nero - everything works perfectly just as we both would expect...

I have NO idea why those two originally referrenced files would have behaved that way. If I can remember where I got them from, I'll d/l them again and try the whole process again just to see if I can replicate the failure.

    D'oh!!!

    Double D'oh!

That's a weird one, another computer mystery, unless the files were the problem.....

    Exclamation

    I have a similar problem!

I was backing up various files with Nero Express 7 last night. I didn't notice that the 'add' function hadn't added all the files I'd highlighted. Fortunately, before I deleted the source files I checked the CD. None of the .zip files had been burned. Everything else (including .rar) worked fine.

I've tried several times since to no avail, the 'add' just doesn't do anything.
Interesting though - if I use Nero Burning ROM everything works fine & .zips are added OK.

    This is a weird one!

P.S. Just tried again. Source files in folder C:\Ready To Backup. Nero tells me that it can't open files in C:\Ready To Backup\Ready To Backup. Why the duplication in the path?

Exactly which version of Express is this? I'm going to go try and duplicate it right now, I hadn't thought to test whether Burning ROM and Express behaved the same way or not... let you know in a day or so.

As to your duplicated path name... if you don't find a better solution, shutdown and reboot your PC and I'll bet it disappears, but I don't really know what causes that... some kinda memory failure doohicky mcthingy...

    Nero version

    Using Nero 7.0.1.4.

There must be some way to define "file types" to use. Just tried again - I hate to quit - but same result. Select as many files as you like in "ADD" and everything but .zip files shows in the window.

    This is bugging me....
