    Resolved [RESOLVED] Outlook 2000 on two machines

    I have Outlook 2000 on both my office PC and my home PC. I'm soon to be leaving my company, and would love to be able to "merge" the address book, inbox information, etc., etc., from my work PC to my home box. But, I can't afford to just overwrite the home machine to accomplish this, as the information already on the home PC is also important to me.

    Is there a way to accomplish the "merging" of two different copies of Outlook into one?

    You can import the data from one .pst file to another. You can also export the specific data you want from a .pst file.

    (click on FILE->Import/Export)

    Ok... but if I IMPORT it into a machine that already has content in the INBOX and other folders, does it ADD to it, or OVERWRITE what's already there?

    If it WILL merge, which type of EXPORT should I use. The Personal Folder (.PST) method?

    I have stuff in the INBOX, ADDRESS BOOK, and a couple of custom folders that I would like to merge into the second machine. If it can't be automated, I need to start printing out info to reenter on the second box, but I don't want to do any of this manually if an automated method is workable.

    When you import, you are asked if you want to allow duplicate entries, overwrite, or not allow duplicates. When exporting, the coiuce is yours. I would probably export as a .pst file. You can always access the .pst file directly with Outlook if needed, without any additional steps, and you can also re-export in some other format later if needed.

    Sounds great. Looks like this will preserve my folder contents. Is there a similar solution for the address book (contacts) itself, or is it included when the folders are exported, or none of the above?

    The address book can be exported, either separately or as part of your Personal Folders. I would probably export everything I wanted to save as a complete Personal Folders (.pst) file, and then do a second export of just the contacts, both to a .pst file and to a .csv or text file as a backup in case I ever needed to print it out or import it to another program.
