Network connects wireless before wired.

When using a wired and wireless connection at the same time, my laptop defaults to the wireless connection first. If I don't have a good signal, the wired connection doesn't take over. I continue to have a poor connection. The only way I can get the wired connection to work is to disable the wireless. Is there any other way to get the wired connection to be recognized first?

If one of the two connections are enabled, Windows XP will automatically use that network connection.

When there are two network connections enabled, XP will automatically use the connection that has the higher rate speed. You can specify a metric to each connection and giving one a lower connection. To do so, please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article.

Or, at that same Network Connections screen, click on Advanced, then Advanced Settings. Move 'Local Area Connection' to the top.

Tropical, I am going to try your recommendation first.

Ecross, I read your link on metric settings but I don't really understand it. What would I do if I want the wireless connection to connect only if the wired connection is not connected?
