    Question What browser?

Pretty much self explanatory title, what browser do you use/recommend to others and why?

    I'll start:

I tend to recommend Firefox because it's nice and simple etc, but i use Avant as my primary browser.

Also, here's a speed test you can try.

Liam, you should set up a poll to please the bar-graph nuts like me.

I have come to love Opera. Not too many bells or whistles, and I can have multiple windows at a click's distance; can resume upon logging on. Just have to figure out the mail settings, but that's chicken flickings. Doesn't crash randomly like IE6, and absolutely no pop-ups.

But you'll never get everyone's choice listed if you make a poll

i also recommend Firefox, and for some reason i think that might be the browser of choice in this thread! Occasionally however i use good old IE as it's the only browser i have that allows ActiveX.
i don't know however i survived without tabbed browsing, great idea. also i love the fact that there are so many add-on's you can Download for firefox that can do pretty much any thing you want. for instance on mine i have a built in Itunes control panel, Web-site load time indicator, nice silver theme, multiple website display option and i can type a word that the browser will highlight for me all shown below. Makes me a happy!

so Liam what are the advantages of Avant over Firefox?

so Liam what are the advantages of Avant over Firefox?
I think a small one is that not as many people use it, or hear about it, FF is getting a lot of coverage now and it's increase in the market actually doubled in 2005 (If my sources are correct) it is also less buggy IMO, as i've had no problems whatsoever with it, and i've been using it for about 4years now, it's quicker from a cold start, and has quite a lot of the same features....all of its strengths and none of its weaknesses....bar the add-ons, there aren't as many, but i can live with that.

You may want to check this comparison out aswell: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Suppor...efoxMyths.html

...and as a side note, i can't stand Dare by the Gorillaz.

as far as the browser goes each to their own. The only advantage that applies to me is ‘it's quicker from a cold start’, but I’m not going to change my set-up just for that. all the other stuff like bugs etc i have never come across. What is slightly puzzling is why 'many people use it, or hear about it' is an advantage?
if i was starting from a fresh i might get Avant but i'm happy with Firefox.

and does all this stuff about security really make that much of a difference? since SP2 and the increased focus on web security is their really that much difference security wise with a browser? surely a decent spyware scanner or anti-virus software is far more important and useful. also I doubt speed wise it matters much anymore, i have 10Mb internet and everything loads so quick i doubt it could ever be increased.

side note; you don't like Gorillaz!! you don't know what your missing .

Well, the whole buzz around FF was that it was safer than IE, and a good replacement, but i didn't like to stick with the crowd, and jumped on the uncommon browser bandwagon, and i'm pleased.

I think the security thing is important because if a browser is used widely, and someone (hacker/********) tries to breach a browser flaw knowing that it will affect a lot of people, you could end up having to clean up something quite messy.

I can't wait for NTL to jump on the huge speeds bandwagon...who's your ISP? and what d'ya pay for 10mb a month?

Gorillaz....ewwww...lol, i'll stick with my "Rockin' Tunes" Thankyou Very Much.

That's somthing for another thread anyhoo....

well unfortunately you can't get my internet. i am Lancaster Uni and pay £70 a year for 10MB, which is stupidly fast. any faster and speed is less down to your connection and more down to the server quality that your downloading off. but internet speeds in the UK are increasing amazingly quick and I’m sure it will be no time before 10Mb looks slow, although the uni are looking into increasing the network to 100Mb/s!!! .
