Port Triggering Question
I am learning to set up port triggering for a prog. In the router's config. menu it asks for the trigger port. I know that for the destination ports I should put in the ports that the prog. uses. How about the trigger port? A co-workers says it doesn't matter. Just put in whatever. Is that right?

You probably want port forwarding rather than port triggering.
Port forwarding says "always accept traffic on port n and forward it to machine x".
Port triggering says "when any machine connects out using port m, forward port n back to that machine for a while".
In the port triggering case, the trigger port is m and the destination port is n.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.

I know. I am just trying to learn how to do it. I have done the port forwarding way and now I just want to know how to do it the port triggering way.
Back to my question, what should I put in the for trigger port? My co-worker says it doesn't matter. He says I can put in any port # for that. Is that right? And if that's right, how would the software know that's the port to use to send out requests?

Thank you for the links but they don't answer my question.

The trigger port depends on the application. Whatever that application is built/configured to use outbound is what you need to teach the firewall to deal with.
