    Dell Hardware Support

I have a dell deminsion 4600 with two drives.
One is a DVD drive and the other is a 48X burner.
Just reinstalled everthing and I went through all the configuration but I can't figure out what drivers I need for these two devices. I cracked open the case and looked inside but I can't figure out how to get the drives out to get the serial number and model number of the drives. They have these pins all around the case that makes it hard to remove the screws from both sides of the drives. I am stuck I need some help, would can I do to figure this out.

    1) I have no paper work or info on the system.. all got lost.
    2) There are a ton of drivers on the Dell web page not sure what hardware I have.
    3) Unable to take out the drives to look and see what type they are.

Are there any programs that can pull up the serial numbers and model numbers of these drives? That would be neat.

Any idea or posts would be appericated.
    Thank you!

    And Fix It I shall!

You don't need drivers for DVD and CD burners to be recognised in Windows.

You will need software codecs to use a DVD Rom and Burning software to burn DVDs or CDs.

With a Dell, everything should have been pre-installed and pre-configured. That's the "advantage" of buying a system off the shelf. You shouldn't have to do anything to make the drives operational. Are they not working and if so, how are they not woking? And if you must install drivers for whatever reason, you don't need the serials of the drives themselves. Just input in the serial # of the system at Dell's site to get all the drivers you want.

What is the problem with the drives that makes you think you need to get drivers for them?

    Need2FixIt,

You asked about a program that would provide serial numbers, product keys, etc, then I would recommend that you try the freeware program Belarc, which you can download from http://www.belarc.com/.

    Cheers,

    Linda
