New d-link switch, slow file transfer
What we had, 4 port d-link router and 2 hubs. 7 machines on the network. One database folder of about 500MB (XP machine) backed up to another XP machine. Took about 6 to 7 minutes daily.
What we have now: same d-link router and a new 16 port d-link switch. First day for this setup. Tried the 500MB folder backup, at 14 minutes it was only about 50% done. Tried backing up much smaller folders from other machines, also extremely slow.
What is the problem with the transfer rate between these machines?
TIA

Try setting the Link speed/Duplex Mode from Auto to 100 Full Mode, on your NIC

AKP thanks, tried that but was unsuccessful. What did work was to unplug everything except my machine and the machine with the 500MB folder to be backed up.
Still dead slow, so I tested both cables. The machine with the folder had pins 1 and 2 crossed. We replaced that cable and the network is flying.
It's amazing that it originally worked at all.
