Anyone else having Firefox crash issues here?

For the last day, I've been having Firefox crash in VDr every few page loads (sometimes even on the forums' front page). I'm guessing it's one of the flash ads, because when it crashes the forum bit has fully rendered and so has the WinPlanet stuff on the side, but the ad area is blank. I haven't had any crashes on HWC yet -- are there any ads that run here but not there?

Firefox 1.5 and Flash 8,0,22,0 (both latest).

I'm not sure but I would imagine so. The advertisers target their ads for the audience, and the audience between the 2 forums is slightly different. I've heard 1 other party complain of FF crashes on webdeveloper.com. I will ask ad traffic to look into it.

check out Nix's posts in this thread...seems he has had this happen as well.

edit: there is a tool to 'report broken web site' that you can use ...it's under tool bar/right ckick/ customize....and it sends info to the firefox development team.....could help to develop the solution..

Running Firefox 1.5 and Shockwave Flash 8.0 r22 here too, (on a couple of different XP setups), and haven't encounted any problems (yet).

I had been experiencing Firefox 1.5 crashing, but not with VDr. I've updated the Adblock extension and that seems to have fixed the problem, touch wood.

    I'm also running 1.5

No crashes, but there's definitely some weird color shift here, though subtle, while the pages load up. At first you think your monitor is starting to crap out, but it doesn't do it on any other site. I don't see it with Mozilla Suite 1.75

I can't say anything concerning IE, because it has a tendency to wait until everything loads before displaying, (one reason I like FF so much).

You'll see it in the light grey area of everyone's responses.

I suspect that only dialup users will notice it, but all the same there's something about VDr that FF 1.5 doesn't like.

For those experiencing crashes, if possible can you take note of which ad is appearing when it crashes? Or if it happens on ALL ads, then let me know that. If the ad is not yet visible at all, then we can't diagnose it this way.

Thumbs down my money is on Trash Flash™ being the culprit

I disabled the extensions for Flash and ads, and sure enough got a crash. Got two crashes, actually, one after clicking Submit Reply.

Can't tell you exactly what ad caused it, because the single most glorious feature of Firefox is how the cache dumps after a crash.

Couldn't get a screenshot, but did see a blank space at the very top right, (the position where, now using IE, I see an HP ad). There was a Sun ad in FF that didn't crash the browser, so I can rule that one out.

Managed to get a screenshot this latest crash, so Tuttle, you ain't alone.

As far as our having to figure out which ad is the culprit, since the cache dumps I can't view the source.

Well that's gonna make it darn tough to diagnose. I appreciate the attempts though.

Well as Poppy4 pointed out I have been having issues for a while in fact since 1.5 RC2 http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=197268 but minde was giving me a memory read error and the option to debug via Dr Watson.

As I stated near the end of http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...4&page=2&pp=40 I have now installed the Flashblock 1.5 extension so I'll see how I go.

It basically puts a button in the place of where a flash is and you can click on the button if you want to see the flash in operation.

Maybe I'll click a few at random to see if one causes a crash.

Initially I'll just see how I go with the flash blocked.

I've been trying that, Nix. Every time I click on the "F" to allow the Flash, it instantly disappears, and the "WinPlanet" stuff takes it's place.

I think on ome pages there are a few buttons and you click on them and nothing appear to happen it's almost like there are flash sections that are not really there or flash whitespace.

The Flashblock seems to be working for me.

This is the page that I quite often got the memory read error on (two screenshots of top and further down of screen).

As you can see on the right hand side there are supposedley 2 flash objects then a Sun ad and another flash object before the Winplanet stuff.

But clicking on any of the flash objects just makes them dissappear.

So maybe there's some sort of processing going on that decides whether to show the objects and it's causing the crashes or thoae objects aren't doing what they should ?

Maybe it's another page, but I haven't had one crash since installing Flashblock 1.5
