round cable recommendations
I am finally getting 'round to replacing my ribbon cables with round cables and need some feedback. I looked on newegg.com at the cables and am wondering about the shielded versus the regular kind. I have a real basic system with a dvd drive and a cd-rom drive on the secondary IDE position, a single harddrive and the floppy drive. I have a standard tower case so I'm wondering how long the cables need to be in order to easily tuck them out of the way. There are 18" and 24" cables and I'm thinking that the 18" ones will be long enough to give me the pliability needed but I would like to hear your comments. Thanks...Steve

Round cables will increase your are flow a bit. They'll also make the inside of your pc look nice....Might measuse the ribbon cables to see how long they are...

You do not mention the size of your case?? I convertered to round cables approx a year ago and found site PC-Pit Stop to be must helpful. If you do not plan of a larger case, measure the length you need and call above. They even sent me some free thermal grease as a sample. Since they specialize in cable, he will direct you whole process. I added SCSI and needed special termination.

Hey Steve...my daughter and son went to and graduated from Irving High...both had a good time there. Duh...I can measure the length of the existing cables... ...any opinions about the shielded vs. un-shielded cables and about any particular brand? They all look about the same to me, but if someone has had trouble with a particular brand I would like to know. gotta go...will check in tonite after work.

I just grab what is on the shelf and have not had any problems with rounded ones yet. Now some folks who maybe interested in the shielded maybe using oer long ribbons. Or are having audio interference. I just have never had problems with either.

Gentlemen...thanks for the input. I'll check out pc-pitstop...haven't been there in a while and didn't remember them having cables ( but I wasn't looking for cables, either ). I kinda figured that the regular round cables would be okay but I was just naturally curious about the shielded kind. By the way..the standard ribbon type cables are not shielded, are they?? Later Gentlemen....
