They've been available for ages - all Opterons are socket 940:

Thanks for the input. I had a client ask about building a socket 940 AMD.
Somewhere I thought I read that AMD was going toward the socket 940 but it doesn't look like the motherboard makers are supporting it, For instance the client had asked about using an Asus board but the Asus site only offers 2 new boards and both are dual processor.
So I'm advising to stick with a 939 at this point.

Yes, mainstream Athlon 64's are socket 939, as are some Opteron models, and so far as I'm aware there are no plans to change that. Socket 940 is reserved for Opterons and the Athlon FX series.
