Sygate to be discontinued
I've known about this for some time now, but there is an actual date as to when the firewall and the Sygate support forums will be discountinued. This really upsets me, I really like using Sygate. For the time being I will continue to use Sygate, though I don't know how long I will continue to do so. Anyhoo, I found this quote on the Sygate user forums:
"Important Notice: Effective November 30th, 2005 all Sygate products and forum support will be discontinued. For technical assistance, please email [email protected]. Thank you and we look forward to assisting you with the wonderful line of Symantec products."

Oh, forgot to mention that Sygate was bought out by Symantec.

Yeah this is terrible news. Terrible news. Symantec sucks and now they've bought out and destroyed a good firewall company. Undoubtedly to replace it with their CRAP.

Looking at the statement on their website seems to indicate they are intigrating the symantec firewall product into a total system package for network protection.
http://www.symantec.com/press/2005/n050816a.html
Upon close of the deal, Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Security customers will be able to license and deploy Sygate's Network Access Control (SNAC) agent to provide endpoint compliance on top of the protection they already receive. Symantec will integrate its remediation capabilities like LiveUpdate and LiveState Patch Manager and its data availability solutions into a more robust endpoint compliance solution.
I see no mention of weather there will be a freeware firewall package produced as before we shall have to wait and see.

At present the free ownload is here. http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm
Got a hunch, Nortons firewall will disappear and the sygate one will be used in its place. If they do, hat just maybe the third good item they have. Disk edit and Ghost they bought also.

I hope they do not update it the way they do with their current package. I had to reinstall 3 times because of corrupt updates .
