Xbox 360 iirc supports, 480p, 480i, 720p, 1080i
i = interlaced, p = progressive
1080 is 1920 by 1080 pixels
720 is 1280x720 pixels
Since the 720 is progressive it is likely to offer a better picture for "fast" games.
From the Cnet, HDTV Glossary
interlaced scanning - Scan method used by the majority of televisions and the 1080i HDTV format. As opposed to progressive scanning in which the CRT's electron beam scans or "paints" all lines at once, interlaced scanning TVs paint odd-numbered lines in succession, then go back and fill in the remaining even-numbered lines. This method is more prone to artifacts and less stable than progressive.
progressive scanning - Also called sequential scanning, this is the antithesis of interlaced scanning used in broadcast television, the process by which all odd and even scanning lines are "painted" by an electron beam every 1/60 of a second. This method reduces flicker and increases stability.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

Just hook it up to a PC monitor, I would have thought that the 360 would have a DVI or VGA output at least, possibly both if it's very fancy.

the 360 has VGA; http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bq-70-11qs.html
and you don't have to wait until next year for one, unlike the PS3.
on another note it's a little concerning the focus that 360 and PS3 are putting on HD when Europe is far behind that kind of stuff becoming main stream. but good for those lucky rich people .
