creating restore points

My computer is not automatically making system restore points like it used to do.

Is there something in Start-Up I may have disabled which is needed to do this?

First, make sure if the System Restore and Task Scheduler service are running and set to Automatic. Start|Run|services.msc Double-click each of the services and set them to Automatic.

Right, I have tried that but I get "Windows cannot find services.msc"
I have also done a search on the hardisc, but do not find services.msc there

Try going to Control Panel|Admin Tools|Services.

Control Panel doesn't have anything resembling "Admin Tools" on it.

Remember I have Windows ME

D'oh.

You could try and Disable System Restore, Reboot, and Re-Enable it.

Steps to do so:

To Disable Windows Me System Restore

1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon. The System Properties dialog box appears.

NOTE: If the System icon is not visible, click "View all Control Panel options" to display it.

3. Click the Performance tab, and then click File System.
4. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore.
5. Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

Once you have cleaned the virus or other problem from the computer, reenable System Restore by following these directions

To enable Windows Me System Restore:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System, and then click the Performance tab.
3. Click File System, and then click the Troubleshooting tab.
4. Uncheck Disable System Restore.
5. Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.
