Screwed up motherboard
I posted this a couple of days ago at Sharky's and only got 1 response from Steven R Jones. Since then I have worked out the LAN problem by uninstalling all Nvidia drivers and making sure the LAN adaptor loaded first but then this created a No Keyboard problem. Then I managed to fix the Keyboard problem (can't quite remember how I fixed that), but I still haven't as of yet found a way to access Safe Mode. And as for the RAID 1 everything worked out great!
My younger brother came over this past weekend, then sat down at my computer and played Doom3. Afterward he went to the store and purchased Doom3 for home. Arriving home he found that Doom wouldn’t work on his current system AMD Athlon 1.4ghz with a 64mb video. My brother had always been the gamer in my family but his marriage
And 2 kids (now 5 & 2yrs old) kept him absent from the gaming world. He then called me up to see if I would build him a new system. We sat down and figured out what we could build and not get the wife pissed off.
Here is what we came up with:
Epox motherboard onboard Audio & LAN
Athlon XP 3000+ Retail heatsink & fan (not overclocking)
1gb Corsair Value Select
128mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer
Aspire x-dreams case
What he already had:
Samsung 17’ LCD
Keyboard, Mouse & Yamaha Speakers
420w Power Supply
DVD Rom
Plextor CD-RW
40gb Maxtor hd
56k modem
Floppy
WinXP Home
I used his old CPU, Case, 350w PSU from the Aspire Case
and a few new parts from my stockpile and built his son a computer.
During the build of my brothers everything went well. Then I was loading
Doom3 for him and all of the sudden on the 3rd disk it crashed!
I started pulling parts from the computer to see what had happened.
I then checked each part one by one In My Computer.
Everything checked fine with only the PSU and the Motherboard
left. I then pulled the PSU and tested it, Bingo thar she be! The PSU
was only about 1 month old, the shop I purchased it at replaced it for
me, free. I put it all back together, with the new PSU and all is well.
Now, for the real problem! While replacing all of the parts in my computer
I slipped with the screwdriver while putting the heatsink & fan in. I can’t
see anything damaged on the board but I managed to fry my ASUS a7n8x Deluxe motherboard. I’ve got a Thermaltake Pipe 101 Heatsink & Thermaltake Silentcat 92mm fan. It’s very hard to get the d**n thing in. Had to buy a new board and this is it -MSI k7n2 Delta2 Platinum.
My new problems are that I can’t get the LAN drivers to load. Something about the Name is already being used as either a Service Name or a Service Display Name. I need the LAN to access the internet!
I Can't boot into Safe Mode! When I try it looks like everything is normal then it just restarts.
I might also have another problem (possibly with my RAID 1) but I want to get the other 2 problems worked out first! Yes, the new board does support RAID! Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
