CA eTrust ver 7.0.6.7
Have been using CA AVP for 7 plus years. Have *ALWAYS* found their 'upgrades' to be something of a hassle.
Just yesterday, updated to ver 7.0.6.7 & things have, again, gone badly. No. Worse than that - horribly.
Install process does not/cannot/ will not complete - hangs at the 'updating sig files/modules' portion of the install process, which I believe is an ftp process.
Reboot + C-A-D at the desktop shows a bunch (all?) of the AVP modules running - some not seen before the update.
However, upon reboot, no usual CA AVP icon in the lower right portion of the task bar. I am unable to register or update sig files manually - just hangs at the ftp site(s) w/no d/l activity = major cramps & program shutdown issues. Start>Programs>&tc will not load the program. Just results in the infinite hourglass = more program shutdown issues. E-mail (OE via IE 6) = no send or receive - even resulted in no internet connectivity (Comcast broadband). Plus more blue screens than I've ever seen, hard locks & shutdown/restart issues.
The *ONLY* resolution to all of that was to uninstall the 'updated' AVP proggie.
I believe my older freeware version of Zone Alarm firewall (ver 2.6.88) may be a factor in this equation. Many moons ago, rolled back to this older ver of ZA in order to make nice nice w/eTrust AVP.
So here I am w/a paid-for-but-totally-dysfunctional 'updated' AVP proggie, which is not just useless to me but destructive when only 'partially' installed. However, in today's world, I would rather go w/o an AVP program than w/o a firewall.
Questions: anyone using this version of eTrust AVP w/a freeware version of ZA firewall, w/what ver of ZA is it compatible? If it matters, this is in a W's 98SE environment.
Thanks to any and all that take the time to read or respond. Credit in Heaven to anyone that can help me resolve this little issue.
