Control Panel oddity...
System in question:
~ Newer Gateway laptop running WinXP Home.
History:
~ User loads SP2 and things don't work. Wireless connectivity no longer works along with a handful of other things.
~ User gets Comcast & Microsoft involved with little success.
~ User attempts to remove SP2, during the process the battery runs down. Hooks up to AC power and the system locks up. Hard power down then back up and now it's really hosed!
Then they call me:
~ After 4 hours of looking things over with this system. And precious little headway... I decide to try a Repair reinstallation.
~ Excellent... things look back to normal, just have to download Windows Updates again. Omitting SP2 this time.
~ Go through the system completely cleaning things up and optimizing, all is good.
The problem:
So, take the system back to the client, get everything connected and working properly, wireless connection back up. Have them check their applications and such... all looks good.
But, during the course of all this... you go to Start and click on Control Panel... CP comes up momentarily, then the screen blinks, CP goes away and back to the desktop.
You can go to My Computer and Control Panel from there and all is good... then go back through the Start / Control Panel and it'll work.
Then it'll occasionally not work... but you can always get to it through other means.....
So, an off and on again type of a problem. No other odd behaviors noticed thus far.... everything works fine and dandy!
Any ideas regarding this little hummer??? Any Control Panel restoration ideas?
Thanks in advance...
