I put a new motherboard in my old 9701 because my attempts to upgrade to MMX on it without knowing the proper voltage settings repeatedly took its toll it seems. I started getting random errors and difficulties that seemed to be related to the I/O part of the system. Such as scandisk catching errors that in the 6 years I've owned the system I have never had problems with except for AOL 7.0. And it not letting me uninstall/install or delete files at its whim.

Anyway, I put in the new motherboard. Hooked everything up. Now the CD Rom wont work. Its plugged in and all connections are good. I have double and triple checked this. If the new mobo is faulty, would that stop the CD ROM from even letting me get a CD out? Because it seems like it just isn't getting power. Its actually seemed to power up once or twice and let me get a CD in and out. Then it just c***s out. And the new motherboard BIOS hasn't been able to read it from minute one. What are the chances of the CD ROM going out right as I put in the new mobo? It is the stock CD Rom that was bought with the system. Its had a good life. I just wanted someones input before I started buying new CD ROMs and/or sent new mobo back.

The power supply, by the way, is brand new.

Thanks for any input anyone can give me.

Chris

P.S. This is also the reason why I wanted to do a system restore from the HD in the other thread rather than from CD ROM as mine seems to be down.
