Attempted fraud
This was posted on one of the other Message boards that I frequent, but thought I would share it, just as a reminder to re-iterate the some of the hazards out there.
Cuckoo Fraud on ebay !! I am a regular (and enthusiastic) user of ebay. Last week I got a message which purported to come from ebay saying "problem with your Account. Your account will be disabled if not resolved. Click here for details." I clicked and thus gave my email address to a fraudster who accessed my account changed my password and fraudulently added two expensive "buy now" items to my account. He also diverted my paypal account to his email. Fortunately because I log in every day I spotted the problem and got on to ebay in time to stop the scam. Not before two people had been invoiced a total of £137,000 under my screen name and my ebay account had been charged over £2000 in fees !! All sorted now but I dread to think what cold have happened if I had not logged in for several days. The "cuckoo" had acquired full control of my ebay account (and good history) plus partial control of my AOL email address. Mainly by "forgetting" his password and going through the routine to replace a forgotten password and he had even changed my secret question, thus locking me out of my own account !! WATCH OUT for any unusual/unexpected messages purporting to come from ebay. Michael G
