Notre Dame Mathematician Solves ECCp-109 Encryption Key Problem Issued in 1997 by security company Certicom. The challenge by Certicom, a company born out of a number of Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem patents much like RSA Data Security Inc., was completed by 10,000 computers running around the clock for 549 days, coupled with the brain power of mathematician Chris Monico at Indiana's University of Notre Dame, to complete one of the world's largest single math computations.
So be sure to change your passwords and encryption keys at least every 548 days.
