Jouni's RegCleaner
I have a couple questions regarding a few of the items RegCleaner is bringing to my attention:
QUESTION #1:
Do I need to keep HIWIRE on my system?
And if not, since it's not listed in ADD/REMOVE Programs, how might I go about the ridding?
HIWIRE is listed as NEW under the software tab:
I"ve noticed HIWIRE before, but ADAWARE never hit on it and I just thought it was one of the Windows related progs necessary for particular functions, like ActiveX, or something else.
Finding it today listed as a NEW piece of software to my system prompted me to look into HIWIRE.
AS IT TURNS OUT, the company's slogan is:
"Your streaming Ad Management Solution"
(from the HIWIRE company website)
Personally, the only solution I need re streaming ads is how to get rid of them all together!
Here are what RegCleaner identified as the related keys:
Author : [Unknown]
Software : Hiwire
Age : Old [read as NEW earlier today]
If you choose to remove this item these keys would be removed
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hiwire
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.TransportCenter.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.TransportCenter
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserRegRequest.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserRegRequest
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserListenRequest.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserListenRequest
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.Register.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.Register
QUESTION #2:
After running ReCLeaner, I have 4 recurring entries.
Do any of you have any insights as to what these are and why they are recurring?
Root: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
key: \icofile\open\command
Entry's name: {KEY
Value: {KEY}
and 2 more listed the same, if substitute icofile with
curfile &
anifile
the 4th recurring entry is clearly related to my zip program, PowerDesk:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PoweDesk\shellopen\command
TIA...
