Help with new system Need Reliability
tNew BigDaddyCat Machine
Ok Guys, and Gals (anyone from Delta, your opinion is especially appreciated. You guys really had it down with GG1 the other day, and I value you opinion but,) all constructive opinions or recommendations are appreciated.
I don’t get to do this much anymore, so I have to make sure I’m correct (or at least in the ballpark) with my choices; and that all the components match up. I’m not as worried about raw speed as I am reliability. This machine will be fast, but it also needs to be Reliable. This will be my personal workstation at my office and when it crashes it looks bad on ME. I don’t want to look bad.
Also I know many will suggest GeForce cards for the Video, but the cad programs I use do not utilize the GeForce gaming cards well. They will run with them, but they are much more stable on the business cards from Ati or Matrox. If anyone else has much experience in the business environment and you have any better suggestions I’m all ears. I don’t particularly like either of these cards but I am familiar with how the Matrox card works. (I have the 16 meg version in my current workstation)
Primary Workstation Components:
1. Processor: AMD 1.4 mhz XP (pr 1600) (or should I go w/ a 1.4 t-bird) (I did decide not to get greedy and go for the pr 1800)
2. Mainboard: SOYO SY-K7V DRAGON SOCKET-462
3. System Ram: 2ea PC2100 DDR 512 mb 184 pin dimms
4. Video: Matrox G450 32MB DDR AGP or ATI Radeon 32 mb DDR (must have dual monitor and Integraph support)
5. Storage: Two Western Digital 30 gig udma 100 7200 rpm hdd’s (ide Raid)
6. CD-Rom: Acer 20x10x40 ide CDRW
7. CD-Rom: 8x DVD ide
8. Sound : use onboard
8. Network: 3com 3c95tx 10/100 NIC (I have this card in all machines on my network)
9. Case: Enlight 72370AZ ATX MID TOWER (340W AMD Approved)
10. Cooling: 2ea 80 mm standard case fans, 1-front & 1-rear. (plug into p.s.)
11. CPU cooling – Thermaltake Dragon ORB 3 (copper base)
12. DDR ram heat sinks one per stick.
Other stuff:
13. Windows 2000 pro
14. Office 2000 standard
15. AutoCad 2002 Land Development Desktop
16. Logitech optical wheel mouse
17. Logitech Internet Keyboard
18. Kinyo Premium Desktop Speakers
19. TWO Viewsonic 19” E90 monitors (I hope the Boss lets me get the second but it may be a future upgrade)
I estimate the cost of the components without software or monitors at under $1000
Thanks for any help.
