Hi All,
Originaly i set this board up with a Quantum fireball,7200RPM, 20GIG as master and a Western Digital 5400RPM, 10.5GIG as slave using the standard IDE connectors. I upgraded my vid card to an ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO, my sound card to SB Live! Value and added 128Mb PC133 non buffered stick for a total of 256Mb of PC133 RAM.
I also decided to utilize the ATA100 feature and used the 40/80 cable. I set both drives jumpers to "cable select" and plugged the Quantum to the end(master)connector and the WD to the middle(slave) connector and used the Promise ATA100 primary connector for the HDD's on the board. My Plextor CD-RW and Pioneer DVD were mounted to the standard IDE primary connector on the board.
Went into BIOS and enabled the ATA100 feature.Booted to Quantums disc mgr. floppy and used easy install to fdisc/partition. Also used it to fdisc/partition the WD(although it warns that no guarantee on other mfg.'s discs, but have used it before with good results). Re-booted with Win98 boot disc(checked it first,all ok). Chose start with CD ROM support and began install of Win98FE.
This is where the "fun"? began. It got to the point of "copying Windows files" and stalled. This is the message that came up.
Message SUOO13: Setup cannot create files on your startup drive and cannot setup Windows98. If you have HPFS orNTFS you must create an MS-DOS boot partition. If you have LANtastic server(which i do not)or SuperStor Compression(which i do not),disable it before running setup. See Setup.txt on Setup disc one or the Windows98 compact disc.
After much thinking an' grumblin',,i moved the hard drives from the ATA100 connector to the IDE connector(left the 40/80 cable attached and Windoze setup just fine.
Could it be that Win98 doesn't recognize the ATA100 controller properly? And, now that i have windows installed, do you think i could move it back? I also, by the way "do" have the mass storage controller installed in device manager. But when this happened, i disabled it. Think i could enable it if i made the move? Would like to utilize the ATA100, but kinda spooked whether or not to try.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
