C:>del MS*.* [Enter] - There goes MSDOS.SYS 8(
I've been using a W98 bootdisk (floppy) to run some games in DOS Mode.
I was tinkering around with loading stuff from C: for speed and when I loaded MOUSE.EXE, it created a file called MSINPUT.INI in the C: directory.
Anyway I typed del MS*.* because I'm lazy and pressed enter, it told me 2 files were deleted and in a moment of pure panic I realized I had just deleted MSDOS.SYS as well (don't know why it wasn't hidden).
I tried to find and undelete command but there doesn't seem to be one (at least not on my system).
I suddenly thought "my WMe EBD" and popped it in the A: drive, used edit to look at MSDOS.SYS and it only contains ;W98EBD 8(.
So I typed dir msdos.sys /s at the C:\> promt and lo and behold there was an MSDOS.SYS in C:\Windows.
I looked at it and seemed to be similar,so copied it to C:.
Removed floppy and rebooted.
Windows loaded fine and all appears ok.
However in the original C:\MSDOS.SYS file there was some stuff about windir, bootgui etc then a whole load of xxxxx lines and some comment about 1024 bytes blah blah and then after these xxx line there were a few more lines AutoScan=1, WinVer=4.90.3000 (I think) and something else I'm sure.
These lines are not in the MSDOS.SYS I copied from C:\Windows and I'm wondering is that good, bad or just plain ugly !!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Maybe if someone can check their two versions on a WMe system and tell me what's supposed to be in them or email them to me if you can't be bothered typing or cutting & pasting.
Thanks in advance.
