Windows NT and USB - Please read this!
Isn't it ironic how the NT stands for "New Technology," yet Microsoft refuses to give NT 4 users USB support? A lot of places use Windows NT, and it's used at the college I attend. And, USB is as well. But, since a lot of people have asked about USB support in Windows NT 4.0, here's what I've found.
I have a USB Keyboard. It works under Windows NT 4.0, DOS, WIndows 95 and 95a, Windows 3.1, Linux, and everything. The reason why is because of the boot protocol mode set in the BIOS for USB keyboards. This is the only device that will work under NT directly. However, a company called BlueWater Systems has a product called USB Retail for Windows NT 4.0. It costs $79 US per license and can be downloaded after purchase online. Their site is http://www.bluewatersystems.com/prod...B_Retail.html. I have not tried this myself, but they claim it will add support for USB keyboards, mice, and printers to Windows NT 4.0. This means you won't have to go out and spend an arm and a leg to upgrade to Windows 2000, assuming this software works. If you need USB support for other devices, you might as well just stroke a check for Win 2000.
