Hi Everyone,
In my office we have 3 computers set up in a simple home network, for the purpose of sharing 1 printer and two of us working on the same spreadsheet during the day.
Here's the problem if you even want to call it that.....
At the end of the day my two co-workers are to save a copy of the spread sheet that they are working on, onto my computer as a daily backup. Now when they go to the Save As dialogue box and then click on My Network Places, sometimes my computer will appear and sometimes it will not. It could be in the morning they can see it and in the afternoon it is gone or vice versa. Same on my computer, if I want to save something or look at something on one of their computers, most of the time I can see both of theirs, but sometimes they are not there in My Network Places. Just yesterday this happened, that I could not see their computers, but today they were both there... And sometimes I can only see one of them.

In the meantime while this is going on, All 3 can use the printer just fine, and the one [shared] sheet that me and another guy both work on, our entries are shared perfectly across the network throughout the day.

So why do we not always see each other in My Network Places? If I rerun the Home Network Wizard they will come back, but maybe within a day or two they are gone, like I said maybe for that day but back the next.
I have made a work around for the document saving problem by putting an icon of the folder from my computer on the other two desktops and they can drop their sheet into there from their My Computer window.

Anyone know why the other computers are not always seen in My Network Places? Is this a known problem of XP?

BTW we are linked up with cables through NIC cards into a Linksys junction box, I said junction box because for right now I can't remember what to call it, but it's not a router, just a simple home network box. And no internet connection.
Thanks as always,
Dave
