I never believed that the lack of udma support for the drive was the cause of your buffer underruns (tho' if it had been the reader it would be more likely) but the lack of DMA support (for just one of the 2 drives) in the bios is unusual to say the least. There do seem to be some underlying issues with the bios and IDE subsytem on the K7M and you should keep your eye open for fixes with respect to them in the future. Not being able to set the parms in the bios the way I believe they should be would drive me nuts! 
BTW - the download contains a model.txt file in it and 8730UK(P1426A-ABU) is among the listed models.
